Morning sir Tedward.

I was 11 and we went on holiday to Canvey Island of all places as it was close to London, if Dad scored a couple of tickets, which he didn't. I watched with my family on a black and white telly and cried when Germany equalized, then again when we won.

A brilliant day and it seems like a just couple of years ago.

Hi Banjo

Yeah weird how it seems like just a few years ago
I watched it with my brother and his wife as my parents were in Spain giving it large to the Germans :-)

Off to Wembley Arena this lunchtime with the old man and a couple of pals for a screening of the game as if live with some other things too.

Looking forward to it.

As a kid my abiding memory of the day is moving home from Forest Gate to a foriegn country called Essex ! Pokey little bedroom of my own as opposed to a massive bedroom shared with Sister. First thing off the Pickfords
removal Lorry was the T.V we sat on top of removal company tea chests watcing the game.and it does seem 50 years ago with the current mess the National side are in.

ENGLAND won the World Cup, you say?

That's a refreshing bit of ACCURACY not often found on here in relation to that topic.

I find it really embarrassing now how people are still banging on about England winning the World cup when other teams have won it three, four or five times! Brazil and Germany have been in seven and eight finals but you don't hear them going on about it all the bloody time!

Fifty years ago and they are still going on!

Don't mean you Ted xx

great programme about the whole tournament on radio 5 the other day ;

- englands first game (uruguay) was pay - cash on the turnsiles, and didnt sell out

all four quarter finals kicked off together - seems unthinkable now

Re: 50 Years Ago Today England Won The World Cup
I know that as a 12 year old I was very lucky to go to three England games in '66. Uraguay, Mexico and the semi v Portugal. Gutted that I missed out on the final, but still great to watch three hammers stars win it.

For me that day 50 years ago was a fantastic climax to three years of unprecedented and un-repeated success for our club. '64 FA cup, '65 ECWC, then the World cup.
And to think that in '64 & '65 the teams were all English, and mostly from the London and south east area.

How times have changed. Love football, hate the Premier League, and SKY.

No doubt the country was a much better place then, more white faces too instead of the multi racial society/ do gooder wankers of today.

Whilst ITV are showing a tribute programme tonight on this anniversary, BBC TV, shamefully, are doing fuck all.

BBC2 can find room for 4 hours of womens golf, an hour of cycling, and nearly 2 hours on the life and times of the socialist loon Ken Loach, but can't be bothered to celebrate our only world cup win. Fucking chattering classes, Islington liberal cunts.

Apart from having the minute by minute event at Wembley Arena on the red button and Radio 2.
And a week of shows on 5Live including a new documentary narrated by Sir Tom Courtney.
Oh and 11 regional documentaries on life in England in 1966
